Studio Etiquette

Here are some helpful tips to guide you. You’ll want to check them out if you’re a newbie, but even if you’re a yoga buff you may find a few good tips you forgot! Overall, be prepared to SWEAT!

Before Class

Come well hydrated and eat lightly 2-3 hours prior to your class. Proper hydration will aid in releasing toxins and boost the overall function of every system of the body.

Please remove shoes as soon as you enter, there are racks at the entrance door of the clinic. Classes are practiced barefoot and in lightweight clothing such as a tank top and shorts.

Please arrive at least 15 minutes early for your class. If this is your first time at our studio, you may want to arrive even earlier to familiarize yourself with our facility and fill out the appropriate paperwork. The class will be open 10 minutes prior to and close 10 minutes after each class. Please be in the hot room 5 minutes before the class start time. If you arrive early, please wait in the change room or in the reception area to keep the hallway clear. Classes begin promptly & are subject to room capacity. Sorry, latecomers will not be permitted into class.

Sign in at the front desk prior to class and inform the teacher if you are pregnant, injured, or have any special needs so that we can give you the modifications needed for a safe class. All new students must read and sign a waiver-release form before admittance.

Tell your teacher about any injuries or special health conditions that might affect your practice. We can suggest modifications and help you enjoy your practice more.

Please do not bring valuables to the studio. There are cubbies for your clothing but no areas to lock your belongings. Please do not bring your bags or extra clothes into the yoga room. Leave them in the change room. The studio is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Please keep your voices low in the clinic. Classes and massage and physiotherapy sessions may be in session.

Yoga rooms are cell phone free. Disconnect for one hour, your body and mind will thank you.

Our facility is scent free. In consideration for those with sensitivities or allergies, please refrain from wearing perfume, cologne, or strongly scented products in class. We practice close together so that we can feel each other’s energy.  Note that this does NOT mean skipping your deodorant!

During Class

Respect the teacher, fellow students and tradition. Honor silence in the Yoga Room. Use the time before class to stretch, meditate and relax. Practice mindfulness that you are participating in a group class. Each class has a purpose and intention. Be respectful to stay with the teacher and the postures given while knowing your own limits. We offer many different levels and styles of classes to meet your needs. Go at your own pace. Be gentle and respectful towards your body.

Please align your mats next to fellow students. The teacher may ask you to re-align your mat in order to accommodate other students. Feel free to borrow our straps and blocks to assist you in your practice during your class. Yoga mats are available for rent at the front desk.

Do your best to stay in the room. Do your very best to stay in the yoga room for the entire class. This is for your safety as well as to adjust to the heat levels Get your body acclimated to the heat by coming in early and easing into your practice by sitting or lying on your mat quietly. Practice stillness between the postures. Check with the teacher if you feel you need to leave. The heat assists detoxification through the sweat. It is common to occasionally feel light headed, nauseous and dizzy no matter what your level of experience is with heated classes. Breathe, rest when you need to, hydrate, adopt child’s pose or lay down.

Always remember all postures are optional at our studio. You are never expected to do anything that you are not comfortable with. Be yourself!

After Class

Wipe up your “liquid energy” (also called sweat). Please clean and return any borrowed items in the designated areas: mats, blocks, straps and towels.

Always leave the yoga room quietly and allow your fellow students to enjoy their final relaxation (Savasana) at the end of class.

Please consider showering at home. There is one shower available. If you shower, please keep showers to less than 5 minutes and maintain tidiness while using change rooms, showers, and bathrooms.

Drink lots of water. Good hydration is very important in a high temperature class both before, during and after.

Share your amazing positive energy with others and come back as soon as possible!!
